ProntoCasa App

Bringing local families and skilled pros together

Our team conducted qualitative research on families living in Bergamo, Italy. Based on our research, we decided to create an app that connects families to professionals who can assist them with household services and repairs. Once the project was complete, I worked on creating a higher-fidelity version of the app, which is included here.

After testing mid-fidelity prototypes on users that the team developed from qualitative research, I created a high-fidelity prototype based on the feedback received. We focused specifically on how professionals can show up in an app to instill trust in users.

Mid-Fi Prototyping

When it came to service providers, we knew from our interviews that families in Bergamo wanted competent professionals they can trust (ideally recommendations from people they know) and hypothesized that the information in our mid-fi prototype will help instill trust in the shown professionals.

We asked users to imagine that they were searching for a plumber to help them

We focused mainly on the processional results page, since trust was important. We asked users what stood out and how they would go about choosing a professional.

We asked users if there was any other information they’d want to see or change on the professional’s profile page.

As a team we did not have time to make iterations based on our learnings, so I made changes and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma based on what we learned and heard, focusing on how the professionals show up and their profile page.

I implemented specific changes based on user feedback:

  • Many were confused about the “Recommended by” section and conflated this with reviews. I titled the top section “Your contacts hired these pros” to be explicit.

  • Some wanted a long list of pros and some wanted a short list to minimize decision paralysis, so I narrowed the list down to 5 pros with an option to load more.

  • Many found “verified” to be important but didn’t know what this meant, so I included an option to learn more.

  • Many were worried about needing urgent help, so I included the pros availability.

  • I changed the pros location to distance in miles instead of town name because users wanted to know how long it may take for the pro to reach them.

Pro profile page

Additionally, I made changes to the profile page

  • The “About”section was moved to the bottom, since many mentioned they cared more about services provided.

  • An option to call or message the pro was added since many users wanted the ability to ask questions or reach out if anything changed.

  • Languages spoken was specified for expats.

  • To help build trust, users can also click on the pro’s image to see a close up.

  • Many users mentioned that they wanted recommendations from friends, so I added a share button, so that it’s easy to share pros with one another.

My biggest takeaway was around developing insights. Not only does an insight need to lead to a product direction but it needs to show the participant motivation and the WHY. My instructors constantly said “ask yourself why five times,” while developing insights. That is something I will continue doing while developing insights and interviewing participants.

Next steps would include more testing and interviewing service professionals to understand if this is something they would be interested in.
